Welcome to ebor jetworks
In 1982 I found a piece of Whitby Jet on the beach, an event which would shape the course of my life there after. A chance meeting with a jet worker later that year gave me the basic skills involved in working jet and despite being only 11 at the time, I began making jewellery.
After graduating from University College Durham with a BSc.Hons.Geology my vocation to work with jet was stronger than ever. Realising that commercially available stone settings were not always suitable for Whitby Jet, I embarked on six years of fashion jewellery design and silversmithing enabling me to produce my own settings. I also began to combine the Whitby Jet with other stones and we now specialise in unusual British gemstones such as Cornish Serpentine and Derbyshire Blue John.
The Ebor Jetworks has now flourished for over 20 years and with my sister Victoria’s help my aim is to make Whitby Jet appeal to everyone, whatever their age.
Although I would describe most of my designs as contemporary in style, the real inspiration, the jet, has been 180 million years in the making.
Please look through the website to see, not only, my range of jewellery, but also some of the history of Whitby Jet and the trade it has encouraged.
